What are hydraulic rubber hoses
Hydraulic rubber hose primarily used in hydraulic systems to control and provide power. They are designed to transfer hydraulic oil primarily (hydraulic fluid compliant with ISO 6743-4, apart from HFD R, HFD S, and HFD T fire-resistant fluids). The maximum operating temperature for water-based fluids is 70°C. For general hydraulic oils, the maximum operating temperature can reach 100°C.

Hydraulic Rubber Hoses Types
Typical hydraulic rubber hoses are classified into three different structural types:
Fabric-Braided Hoses (One or two layers)
Tube: oil resistant synthetic rubber.
Reinforcement: One or two braid suitable fiber.
Cover: oil and weather resistant synthetic rubber.
Steel Wire-Braided Hoses (One, two, or three layers)
Tube: high quality synthetic rubber compounds.
Reinforcement: one or two-braid high tensile steel wire.
Cover: abrasion and weather resistant synthetic rubber.
Steel Wire-Spiral Hoses (Four or six layers)
Tube: black and oil resistant synthetic rubber.
Reinforcement: multiple layers of spirally wrapped high tensile steel wire
Cover: abrasion and weather resistant synthetic rubber.
Hydraulic rubber hoses are manufactured in imperial sizes with standardized inner diameters. The most common hose standards include European EN, International ISO, and American SAE.
Standard symbols and key specifications, such as diameter, working pressure, and production date, are marked on the hose. Additionally, the hose may feature a specific name provided by the manufacturer or customer.
Features of Hydraulic Rubber Hose
Flexible
Hydraulic hoses have small minimum bend radius. This type of sinopulse rubber hydraulic hose has a minimum bend radius of 33mm (Fiber Reinforced Nonmetallic Rubber Hydraulic Hose).
High Pressure
Rubber hydraulic hoses typically withstand pressures from 3000 PSI to 10000 PSI, or even higher. This high pressure capacity is provided by their reinforcing layer. The reinforcing layer is usually made of steel wire or steel wire braid, which allows the hydraulic hose to withstand extremely high pressures while maintaining sufficient flexibility to adapt to different working environments and operational requirements. Sinopulse manufactures rubber hydraulic hoses that exceed the maximum working pressure specified by standards. For example, the SAE 100R2AT can reach a maximum pressure of 6500 psi. Burst pressure meets ISO 1402 standards.
High Temperature
Generally, rubber hydraulic hoses can withstand temperatures between -40℃ and 100℃. If the recommended temperature is exceeded, the rubber starts to lose its flexibility and stiffens, then leakage starts to occur at hose ends, close to the fittings. In such cases, hoses with a higher operating temperature range should be used. This range is from -40°C to +100°C (with peaks up to 125°C) for hoses with textile braids ( 2TE, 3TE type), with compact steel wire braids (1SC, 2SC,1SN, 2SN), and for a certain group of hoses with spiral braids (4SP, 4SH). For spiral hydraulic hoses with constant working pressure regardless of diameter (R12, R13, R15) the range is from -40°C to +121°C (with peaks up to 125°C).
Abrasion Resistance
The abrasion resistance of rubber hydraulic hoses is tested according to EN ISO 6945. This standard defines the weight loss of a hose sample after a specific number of cycles and a vertically applied force.
After 2000 cycles of testing under a vertical force of 25 ± 0.5 N, the average weight loss of type 1SN and 2SN hoses is 0.5 g. Sinopulse rubber hydraulic hoses are even more abrasion resistant, with an average weight loss of 0.1 g or even lower.
Ozone Resistance
Ozone testing of hydraulic rubber hoses prevents damage to rubber and plastic materials, which can lead to aging, cracking, and failure of the hose. Good ozone resistance ensures hose lifespan. Sinopulse's rubber hydraulic hoses show no signs of aging or cracking after 500 hours of ozone testing.
High Pulse Pressure, Fatigue Resistant
Sinopulse provides pulse pressure test data (pulse pressure tolerance is defined as the number of pressure pulse cycles a hose should withstand when tested according to the procedures specified in ISO 6803). Our EN853 standard specifies that 2SN type hoses must withstand at least 200,000 pulse cycles at 133% of the maximum operating pressure. The EN857 standard specifies that 4SH type hoses must withstand at least 400,000 pulse cycles at 133% of the maximum operating pressure.
Long Service Life
The service life of hydraulic hoses is affected by many internal and external factors. Assuming a specific hose has been correctly selected based on operating parameters (pressure, temperature, medium, etc.), the next question is how long that hose's service life will be.
